Scanning of SANE documentation

By Amanda Pena posted 02-05-2014 04:20 PM

We recently opened a SANE program and utilize the documenation within the kit.  The director of medical records is requesting the SANE chart be scanned into medical records.  I was wondering what other facilities do, can I maintain chain of custody "which I assume includes the documenation" if it is scanned into the medical records?  Thoughts?  Thank you in advance for your comments.

You need support from your institution attorney sounds like. have meeting with him or her and explain that this is not a medical record its a forensic record and should be stored differently.

The physicians at my hospital use a different form that someone way before my time developed. These forms have always been scanned into the medical records as part of the medical record. Is there something that I can present to my administrators that explains this to them?

IF you are going to send you case reports to medical records, which I do not suggest. Ask if they can be red flagged in the your electronic system as restricted.

The patient's SANE chart should never be scanned into medical records. It should be kept seperate to protect the patient. This record should never be accessible to just anybody.
