Haiti

I am a forensic nurse examiner, but also an ED nurse. I've been to Haiti three times since the earthquake and prior to now, the idea of addressing sexual assault seemed impossible. Haiti is in ruins, but two years later we are assisting with what Haiti is now and no longer pulling people from the rubble. The conditions in the tent communities are beyond what any human being should endure, and sexual violence is an issue. With little access to healthcare other than what we can provide with our mobile clinics and uninvolved and often corrupt law enforcement, it is a daunting prospective. However nurses and especially forensic nurses have shown with initiative, creativity, and international collaboration, we can do anything. Please let me know if you would be willing to try. There is an excellent article about tent camp assaults on the SAFEta website. It is from Amnesty International.
