While I do feel this is a thorough position statement, I would like for it to go a little further in stating all ED's will screen women 12 years old and older for IPV and any males with suspicious injuries. This screening doesn't need to be done at triage but should be done before discharge. Most ED's screen for suicide, TB--down to your last pap smear and which pharmacy you use. Asking about IPV is dire in some situations. The ED may be her only refuge due to extreme isolation. Community and hospital resources and referrals need to be in place for positive screens. I would like this position statement to also include a resource related to IPV witnessed by children and it's influence on emotional and physical health.
