I hope the CFN through ACFEI is considered valuable. I assisted in writing the exam a while back, and other well respect forensic nurses have worked on it and improved it since. It tests general Forensic Nursing knowledge using well respected sources. At least it did. I haven't seen it lately. But there are requirements one needs to finish before the test can be taken.

Hi Angie, ANCC is about to start offered a portfolio recognition in forensic nursing. The title is AFN - Advanced Forensic Nurse. The information should be coming soon.

So the CFN that is offered by the Amercian College of Forensic Examiners would not be recognized by the IAFN, right?

Hi Angie, the IAFN and Certification program has looked into the task of developing a Generalist Forensic Nurse Certification. I have just included a link from an article in On The Edge that was published when we decided it was not the time to develop a generalist exam. I hope the article explains this clearly why the board made that decision.
The issue that is raised was the lack of a generalist forensic nurse educational curriculum. What defined the education of a generalist forensic nurse? Who practiced as a generalist forensic nurse and what did they do? Shortly after IAFN published that article in OTE, the Board developed the Forensic Nurse Core Curriculum committee to develop a generalist forensic nurse curriculum. This project is currently in mid-process.

Hey Angie! I have seen an application for an online California Nursing Board Approved course and test (about 550$) with the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute. I have sent an inquiry into our NCBoN regarding the accreditation and will let you know what I hear back from Paulette Hampton. Hope you are well!
